Live Muscovy Duck (Chaina Hash)
Muscovy is the big, meaty duck – less fat than a Pekin, more meat on the breast, and the one most Bangladeshi and Caribbean families ask for by name. If you grew up on hasher mangsho, this is the bird you remember.
Ducks are kept live at the shop. You pick yours, we weigh it in front of you, and the zabiha halal cut is done at the counter. Feathers off, cleaned, and bagged while you wait.
What people make with it
- Hasher mangsho – duck curry with whole spices
- Duck bhuna, cooked down until the oil separates
- Roast duck for a winter table
- Duck and rice dishes, where the fat does the work
Cut however you need
Whole with skin, skin removed, or chopped into curry pieces. Say the word at the counter.

Is the meat really halal?
Yes. Every bird and animal is slaughtered zabiha halal by hand at our shop, and you are welcome to watch it being done.
Can I pick the animal myself?
Yes – that is the whole point of a live market. You choose it, we weigh it in front of you, and you pay after you have chosen.
Will you cut it the way I want?
Yes. Whole, skin on or skin removed, curry pieces in the size you ask for, quartered, or breast and leg kept separate. Just tell us at the counter.
How much is a goat or a lamb?
Goat and lamb are priced by weight, so the price depends on the animal you choose. Call (646) 604-2613 for today’s rate.
Do you do flame-singed skin?
Yes. For goat and lamb you can have the traditional flame-singed skin done on the spot, or have the skin removed. Tell us which when you order.
